Please see below for an update from our Executive Director on the upcoming OSSTF Strike:
The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) has announced that on Tuesday February 4th, 2020, their members will engage in a full withdrawal of services (strike action) in public schools where OSSTF is represented across parts of the province in Waterloo unless an agreement is reached at the central bargaining table. The OSSTF strike action will affect the elementary schools within the WRDSB and all Creative Beginning Childcare Centre programs. CBCC will be required to CLOSE all programs February 4th, 2020 in the event of a strike.
CBCC is not affiliated with any union and as such, it is not our educators or staff that are participating in the full withdrawal of service and therefore will be reporting to onsite work. That said; we are contractually bound to the WRDSB, as they own the space for our childcare programs and they have informed us that we cannot offer any childcare if the strike occurs. CBCC continues to advocate on your behalf with WRDSB, Region of Waterloo, Children Services and the Ministry of Education (Child Care and Early Years) to see if we can reach an agreement to offer our programs. However, due to the strict requirements by the Ministry of Education and our intend to offer high quality childcare, we have yet to find a quality solution.
A “full withdrawal of service (strike action)” made by WRDSB is an ‘unforeseen closure’ as indicated in CBCC financial agreement and therefore financial credit will not be given to families for the pending one day strike.

Please know that CBCC is only required to close our programs when the OSSTF facilitates a full withdrawal of service. We are able to offer all programs when the EFTO facilitates a full withdrawal of service.
CBCC empathizes with families and can understand the challenges of these labour disputes and therefore we will continue to advocate on your behalf.
